Led end-to-end product design for Yatri, a rideshare app built on the open Beckn protocol. Grew to 1.2M users across two cities.

Context

Yatri, publicly known as Namma Yatri, runs on ONDC, an open network for transportation backed by the Karnataka state government. Unlike Uber, it takes zero commission, so drivers keep the full fare. It launched across two cities in 2021 and 2022, growing to 1.2 million users.

Role

I led product design end to end, from ideation to dev handoff: the onboarding, search and navigation experience for riders, and the pickup-and-dropoff experience for drivers, designed for two completely different environments, calm and indoors for one, noisy and in motion for the other.

The opportunity

Riders were stitching together separate apps, bookings and payments just to find the best way across a city. Drivers were losing a cut of every fare to commission-charging platforms.

Riders trade off between walking, auto, bus and bike before committing, each combination scored on time and distance, so the best route across the city is a comparison
